3 reasons why truck drivers cause accidents

It's true that a lot of truck accidents are caused by other drivers, at least in part. They may tailgate trucks, cut them off, drive in the no zones, not give them space to turn, and make other mistakes. However, even though truck drivers are professionals who drive for a living, it's only fair to point out that they also cause some of these potentially deadly accidents. Below are three reasons that they may do so:

1. The drivers are compensated in a way that encourages them to work long hours or drive faster. For instance, one of the most common ways to pay drivers is by the mile. A driver who wants to earn a little extra during the week may then be tempted to break the speed limit and drive unsafely, all while trying to pad his or her paycheck.

2. Drivers aren't properly trained. Driving a semitruck is not easy. Companies need to have drivers with the proper training so that they know how to handle these enormous vehicles. However, in an effort to get the drivers on the road quickly -- increasing production -- they may not give them all of the training they deserve.

3. Drivers are given schedules they just can't meet. Companies value speed and production. If someone who never drives a truck creates the schedule, he or she may set it up down to the minute, really pushing drivers to stick to it or risk losing their jobs. The realities of the road -- weather conditions, traffic jams, and the like -- may push a driver off of the schedule, and he or she may then drive unsafely to catch up.

For other drivers, truck accidents are severely dangerous and often deadly. If you've been hurt in a crash, perhaps even suffering a permanent disability, it's critical to know what rights you have to compensation.
